Moody Winter Newborn Session | Anchorage Newborn Photographer | Moss and Myrrh Photography

The biggest compliment I can get is when another local photographer refers clients to me because they aren’t able to take that session on themselves. My sweet friend Lauren, of Lauren Roberts Photography (check her out, especially her wedding work!), sent this sweet family my way and ah, so grateful. Their home was cozy, moody, and they had a Corgi to boot!

I say that my work is a mixture of documentary and lifestyle. A little bit of “posed” (hey, sit here and look at your baby) and a little bit of documenting the rawness that is having a newborn. Newborns are on their own schedule and shooting in a client’s home gives us the freedom to really be flexible. Honestly? Half the session I’m sometimes just sitting on the floor waiting for baby to finish eating, pooping, or having a complete meltdown. Of course I shoot that too, but I’m also 100% okay with going with the flow and sometimes that means sitting on your floor loving on your dog.

Enjoy. <3

Reflections Lake Fall Family Session | Anchorage Family Photographer | Moss and Myrrh Photography

I know it looks like winter outside here in Alaska, but it’s still technically fall, so I’m going to squeeze on by and post one more fall session before winter is officially here!

I am already booking for summer + fall 2019, so if you’d like to book a family session with me next year, let’s chat!

An Alaskan Fall Evening | My Favorite 2018 Session | Anchorage Family Photographer

I’m currently sitting in Sea-Tac sipping coffee (yes, I’m supposed to quit, but I’m TIRED!) editing and trying to kill a little time. I figured this was a better time than any to show off my favorite session of the 2018 summer/fall season! There are no words for how much I love working with this family. They make it easy and these two sisters are magic together. I know it can be hard to “let go” when a camera is following your every move, but these pictures are proof that when you do, you get some gorgeous pictures in return. I have a problem saying “no” to narrowing down pictures. If I really wanted to save myself hours and hours of time I could just cut these down to around 30-50 images, but I never can. Even the shots that are similar have something unique about them that forces me to keep them to share with the family. That’s why there are SO many pictures here..oops.

Anyway, here is a little bit (actually a lot) of magic for your Friday morning.

Also, a friendly reminder! The PFD sale went live yesterday. If you’d like to save up to $150 on a session just like this of your family next year, go take advantage of it!

Baby Milly | Anchorage Lifestyle Newborn Photographer | Moss and Myrrh Photography

Seriously, fell in loooooove with this family. When I walked into their house I couldn't get over all the sweet detailed wood pieces through out. Everything was unique and clearly handmade. Turns out little Milly has some super talented parents, they're the owners of Moose Be Rustic! If you're in need of a gorgeous custom sign or wood piece, you definitely need to get in touch with them.

In other news, Milly is pretty dang cute herself, eh? This session was booked with the A Piece of You Collection, so a mini newborn session essentially. Turns out I can't even cull down a "mini" session to a logical amount of images because their gallery was HUGE. I really need help..haha!

Enjoy some sweet pictures of a very hungry/grumpy/adorable tiny Milly. <3

First 72 | In Home Newborn Session | Anchorage Newborn Photographer

Here's a little something new I'm starting, First 72's! Instead of Fresh 48's, where I come to you (usually the hospital) within 48 hours of baby's arrival, I'm now pushing that to 72 hours. I've had a lot of Fresh 48's booked in the last few months and almost all of them got changed to 72 hours. Going into their homes and working with them in that time frame vs. 48 hours, I realized things were MUCH smoother and less stressful for parents. We also get to shoot in home, which is what I love most. Hospitals have their purpose, but they can be so limiting with what I can do since we're stuck with one window (that's usually throwing harsh light) + a whole lot of equipment shoved in a small room. First 72's IN home? That's where it's at, guys! By going this route I'm also able to give a lot more in galleries (see below) because everyone just seems more comfortable. I can't explain it, but being in your home is such an awesome option when photographing your fresh baby.

These sessions are simple. Once baby arrives you contact me asap so we can get a date + time scheduled. These are not like newborn sessions where we can wait for weeks, these are shot within 72 hours of birth, so it's crucial we schedule immediately. Unlike newborn sessions, we won't be changing outfits or going room to room. This session is a little more raw and we basically just hang out in bed the whole time. If there are siblings, they're more than welcome to jump in too!

We'll hang out for a little over an hour just soaking in your fresh babe and all their newness. Those first few days are nothing but pure bliss + exhaustion. It's beautiful and I think it's because society + reality haven't made their way in yet. It's like a little bubble that can never be brought back. Baby is so tired, so hungry, and still hasn't changed ENOUGH to make you want to bawl your eyes out.

I would love to work with you if you're due this summer! Please check out the details on investment OR drive right in and contact me! But first, check out this sweet baby, please. I'm so, so, in love with this session and all the simplicity.
