Baby M | In Home Newborn Photographer | Anchorage, Alaska

Ahh, this session..my heart. This was originally supposed to be a Fresh 48 but the weather prevented me from getting there on time and in the end, we opted to do an in home newborn session. I'm not going to lie, I'm SO glad we went this route. Their home was a neutral heaven and as you've heard me say about 10,000x, shooting in home makes my heart explode every single time. This doesn't even begin to show how many pictures were in this gallery, but I HAD to narrow it down. Ha!

This session is all neutrals, sweet cuddles, a cute dog, and an adorable big brother..a few of my favorite things. <3

Have your own little due and want to book a session? I've got room for a few more summer sessions!

A Piece of You | A Mini Newborn Collection

I've been playing with the idea of bringing in a smaller collection for awhile now. I love being all inclusive. I LOVE sending home huge galleries, but also know that not everyone can afford packages that include those huge galleries. I know that I'm restricting others (that love my work) from being able to get a few of their own gorgeous pictures by only offering two big packages. So, I'm throwing in a new collection just for the newborns!

This collection includes a 30 minute session in your home within 3 weeks of baby being born. Normally my sessions last around 1.5 to 2 hours, so this is REALLY cutting it down. I expect these sessions to be a lot more raw and mostly just cuddling in bed shots. Simple, yet a beautiful way to capture your new bond. We are WINGING it with this collection. If baby is cranky and wants to nurse, you're getting pictures of a baby on your boob or chugging bottles. Honestly? Those are my favorite. Ha! I know some people don't want that though, so I'm just trying to be transparent. My work isn't very posed as is, but you get the idea.

Each client that books will be sent an online gallery to choose 5 digital images (with print release) out of a minimum of 15. Let's be real, there will probably be 30+ because I have an issue with deleting pictures. You've been warned! If you absolutely cannot choose which 5 you're wanting, you will have the option of purchasing the entire gallery, but that's not required.

As always, I like to be transparent with my pricing, so there's no need to have to email me to get all the details.

A Piece of You will be $325 and that includes the session + 5 digital images of your choice. If you see your gallery and absolutely CANNOT let those images go, you can purchase the entire set for $150.

The $325 session fee is due at the time of booking because these are such a steal. They're half of the regular fee, so this is a dang good deal! << Look at me rhyming!

I'm still booking a few more summer newborns (and booking into fall), so if this is a session you're interested in, let's get your due date booked!

P.S.- I'm also GIVING AWAY one of these sessions to a local Facebook follower! The giveaway goes live at 6 pm tonight, so be sure to go and enter if you're expecting!

Kaile + Beau | Anchorage Lifestyle Photographer

I've been trying to get this session edited for over 3 MONTHS now, guys! Oh, don't worry, this was a model call (and a great excuse to hang out with my friend Kaile + her chunky man) so, don't think I leave my client's hanging for 3 months normally. Ha! Client work is actually what kept me from editing this gorgeous session. One of my favorite sessions to do is sink baths. I. Love. Them. That and milk baths, apparently I'm obsessed with baths? The way they photograph is just ahhh. Skin on skin + water? Yes! Anyway, here's Kaile + Beau, before he turned the big 1 and had to grow up on us. Oh, and there's a sassy kitten too!.  <3

There are Two Types of People || Wasilla Lifestyle Photographer || Moss and Myrrh Photography

The truth about all this.

When I first started my business I thought I had to photograph what everyone wanted and expected. They wanted posed, they wanted bright, they wanted happy, they wanted what they saw on Pinterest (P.S.- I HATE Pinterest), and they wanted sweet words to be written about it all. It's funny how things change, though. While what everyone wants MAY pay your bills, it won't make you happy. I learned that after a few years and realized, I'd rather be broke than do what's expected of me. What's the point in being self employed if you're only living under someone else's thumb? There is no point. So, I chose to stop doing what everyone expected of me and started shooting whatever the heck I wanted. In doing that, I found that I love moody, dark, intimate, and detailed photographs. I don't follow the rules of underexposing, clipping blacks, or making sure skin tones are perfect. To be completely honest, I don't care. What I want is to FEEL something when I share my work and I want you to FEEL something too.

Who am I kidding?

It was scary as hell at first and still is mostly everyday. There are two types of people. The ones that look at photography as art and the ones that think I'm just lugging this camera around because I want to be paid (and do so doing minimal working). The first type, they're my people. It's hard finding those people, though. And sometimes you begin to wonder how the heck you're going to pay your bills like this. Some months I scrape together whatever last bit I have to make ends meet. Why am I telling you this? No, I don't want you to feel bad for me, I want you realize that I LOVE THIS FREAKING JOB. I don't do it because I want to get rich (I mean, I wouldn't mind that though), I do it because it fills my soul. I scrape by most months because I know this is what I'm supposed to be doing, broke or not. I am where I'm supposed to be.

To the discouraged artists

Don't give up. No matter what your art is, don't give up. It is stressful, god is it stressful, but you're meant to do this, you're meant to throw up your feelings through your creative outlet. Hustle, scrape by, do whatever it takes, you're here in this very place for a reason.

To the people that see art

Thank you. You pay my bills, you feed me, you encourage me to keep going even when I'm positive I'm close to giving in.

And to the people that think there's nothing to this

I see you. You think because some people in the world choose a different path than you (refusing to play the corporate game) that we're somehow lower than you. I beg to differ. Choosing this path is not the easy way out, so very far from it.

Transparency is key.

I had a realization earlier this year and that was, people want to read and see something REAL. There are too many of us just playing it safe in fear of hurting someone's feelings. I threw that fear out the window earlier this year and I'm not looking back. I know, I can be a bit much for some people. "Shut up and just show me pictures, please". But you see, THOSE people, the ones that don't want to HEAR me too? They're not my client. So, if you've made it this far and actually like what you've read, there's a good chance we'd be a good fit, client or friend..I don't really care. Shoot me an email just to say "hey!". It's nice to know I'm not writing for nothing, ya know? <3

Now, enjoy this ever so moody session of my Hazelton painting for the first time. There's a film too, short and sweet.

Alaskan Motherhood

Session ↟

Ah, a few of my favorite things: motherhood, chunky babies, and the forest. I've documented these two since the day this sweet one was born and oh, I love them. There's something amazing about getting to watch a little grow and change, but it's also pretty amazing to get to watch the mother grow and change. We are constantly evolving as people but aren't consciously aware of it because we're so wrapped up in life. I get to see it from the outside though and I love seeing how Motherhood changes each woman. Chelsea is such a good a mama and Wyatt, ahhh she's growing so fast! Thank you, Chelsea, for letting me document this season of Motherhood for you. Wyatt is going to cherish these so much!

P.S- These sessions are now discounted when booked with your birth and/or newborn session! Motherhood Sessions are booked anytime between 3 and 12 months after baby's arrival and they're all about you + your little and the bond you've created. <3
